British Cycling Update for clubs

  • Church Bridge Bruton Somerset (map)

If you’re coming on a club ride (and especially if you’re leading one) in the next week or so please read this important info.

From Monday 29th March, provided UK Government don’t intervene, we can “ride” in groups of up to 15 people. However we’re not meant to meet up prior to the ride in a gang of 15 on Church Bridge. Guidance states we should meet outside in groups of up to 6 but can come together as up to 15 once riding.

British Cycling are trying to get the message out to police and public, but many clubs are considering running groups of 6 max for now to stop public or police scrutiny. British Cycling are going to provide a letter we can print out and carry with us incase we’re in a group of >6 and are challenged, to state the legal situation i.e. as a British Cycling Affiliated club we are legally allowed to ride in groups larger than 6 but no more than 15. They promise this letter will be available early next week, and I’ll print out some copies to hand out to ride leaders.

We’re meant to be self sufficient on our rides. So we definitely can’t have 15 of us pitching up at a cafe. The guidance is there to minimise Covid risks, so we need to be sensible for the next few weeks, and if a cafe stop is essential to your ride, be mindful of the restrictions the Take away cafes are under, and order separately or in pairs at most.

We need to have someone taking responsibility for leading the ride/group of 6 (or more) for the purposes of track & trace. If you know everyone on your ride by name, then take a photo of your group at the start of the ride, and keep the photos, so if any one of us tests positive for Covid we know who else on that ride to inform for the purposes of track and trace.

If you have any mates who want to come and try out BCC for size, we can have guest riders join us currently and they will be covered by the third party insurance we get from our British Cycling affiliation.

Ride plans for the coming week will be posted shortly. Crossing fingers for sunshine, smooth roads and riding with all our good mates of the BCC again, BRING IT ON…..
