The best of Dorset and Somerset

Got some great riding in this weekend. The wind did not deter 9 mighty BCC from riding out on Saturday. We chose a route with good hedge protection, and apart from the occasional side swipe in the field entrances, made it down to Child Okeford with no mishaps. Great refuel at The Cafe on Gold Hill Organic farm as ever, speedy service and a warm welcome. Headed back the way we came, as we love those lanes so much, some bursts of chain gang style from Buckhorn Weston, and splitting off for home destinations at Wincanton.

Sunday gave us kinder weather initially; Mr SC firmly declined the offer of starting the ride up Coombe Hill, so we went out via Wyke and Lamyatt before approaching the ascent to Doulting, which some of the mighty 6 riders hadn’t had the pleasure of before! All enjoyed the whizz across the Mendips and down into Wells, and Old Bristol Road gave us a great appetite for sustenance at The Priddy Good Farm Shop - luckily pipped Portishead CC to the post, and got an inside table, rapid service and a marvellous fuel. Mr SC’s progeny (the younger) joined us for our journey back to Bruton - thankfully he packed a rain jacket as it persisted down big time in Cheddar. Mostly dried out by the time we were back in Glasto and onto the levels for home. Great fun, and well done to Mr DC, Mr AF and Mr KL for joining the sunday frolics. Master JC - big respect, beating most of us oldies up the climbs on the way home!
