Roads less travelled
A good crowd met for the ride out to Mells at On The Brook. Once Mr PT had tested the glassware for bouncability, we set off on the usual route via Upton Noble, Trudoxhill and Nunney to get to the Walled Garden café stop – always a popular destination. Excellent quick service and sausage rolls were the order of the day for most and a chance to enjoy the warmth of the sun. A slightly different route back was then undertaken led by Mr RM which ended with a rapid descent from Doulting where Rule 85 was observed. Alternative ways to cover the last mile with a few hardy souls tackling Portway(Bastard) Hill. A great morning ride out.
Sunday saw 7 of the mighty BCC heading off for Wilton and then a scenic route around to Shaftesbury before a quick blast home. The weather offered a window which was happily taken despite some early doubt and the ride down to Coffee Darling in Wilton was swift and uneventful – amazing what tail wind can do for you. The break was enjoyed with bacon sandwiches all round and we set off for the second half in high spirits for a route not done by most of the group before. Dr L and Mr SC lead the return ride and its challenges were met and enjoyed(?) by all. A couple of punctures delayed the return home but the group made a quick return from Gillingham and finally split up in Wincanton to make individual ways home. Hard work – yes - but always good to try new roads.
