Autumn is coming, and the rides are getting wet

Saturday saw 9 Mighty BCC head out towards Gillingham, Mr CT had an unfortunate tyre incident (tubeless!) requiring a limp back to Bruton before he’d even made it to Wincanton. The rest of us rolled on down the slightly debris strewn lanes out via the delights of Cucklington, for lovely views, and a pleasant roll into Gillingham. Bike drooling at Wheels of Dorset before our coffee/cake, then a chain gang style chase back to Wincanton before we all headed off to our saturday jobs.

Sunday brought some early rain, but the clouds cleared at Butleigh in time for the riders brief at 8.45am for the Second Butleigh Sportive - great event, well run, well signed, lovely people. Mr Croom was at the start, but that was the last we saw of him…. he came in 3rd, claiming Age Doping (two young whipper snappers beat him) as his reason for not coming in 1st. Mr JG, Mr AO, Mr TW and Dr L formed a pack to polish off the 105km including a rain and wind lashing up Cheddar, in a respectable 3hrs 40. Mr SB and Mr AF (and friend) also enjoyed the ride, with the 2 groups meeting at the midway fuel stop (Sweets) for brief banter. Great day out, and only a few showers along the way. Hope to get a big posy of BCC riders out on this lovely route next year.
