Chasing The Sun 2021
Saturday 19th June, 10 mighty BCC riders, and their amazing 4 man (well mostly Woman actually) support crew successfully made the 205 mile journey from Minster on the Isle of Sheppey to Burnham-On-Sea in Somerset.
WHY - to raise shed loads of money for charity (see donation links below if you haven’t already got round to donating). BECAUSE - several of our club members have been personally affected by Prostate cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
The team stayed strong by staying together and taking all the refuel opportunities the Support Crew could muster. The other 800 or so riders on the event enjoyed the moves and sounds coming from the beat box support crew cars of the BCC - their energy and enthusiasm was contagious.
We rolled out of Minster as the sun tried to rise in the low cloud at around 4.40am. Several punctures, attending to injured riders (not ours), wheel changes and the never ending traffic lights of South London made for a slow start. After Chertsey the roads opened up a bit. We all felt the pull of home when we started to see signs for Devises, Frome, Wells. Just the hardest bits of climbing to get out of the way in the last 50 miles and we were rolling down Cheddar Gorge and towards the finish line. By this time it was raining, draughting nigh on impossible, but we all managed to stay together for a mass finish in Burnham through a hoard of cheering CTS support crew and family members.
A superb day, camaraderie, team work and true BCC Grit showed itself in spades.
And to all who’ve donated (or are going to….) THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
