Into the Wetlands

Into the Wetlands

At 8.45am on Saturday 21st Dec Mr PT thought he’d be cycling solo… then all the lazy so and so’s started to show up at the Chapel, with 10 of us rolling out just after 9am. Mr PC joined us this morning, an unexpected pleasure, off the front all the way, and putting us to shame up the hills, but great to see him none the less. Heading out through Wincanton, Buckland Newton and Fifehead Magdalen, we managed to avoid the floods. Up into Marnhull, and Dr L’s mental route map went astray, the pack headed off while she checked the map but the saviour of the day was Mr Super Rich, out on a solo jaunt, who shot off to tell the pack to hang a U turn. Mr SJ and Miss SB headed over the horizon around the same time to join the BCC masses, and all headed through a few soggy lanes to Thyme after Time. However there was no room at the Inn, despite the Blackmore Vale CC having just left. So us brave souls took the outside tables, service was superbly swift and we were soon all sustained with hot food and drink. A circuitous route back via Stourton Caundle and Milborne Port, but flooding caused another U turn to be taken, before we could retrace our path up through Blackford and Holton onto Bruton, losing Mr AF on the way, but all made it home safely.

Sunday, and the festive season seemed to be taking it’s toll on all but the hardy Mr PC and Mr SC who met as planned and headed down through Somerton and South Petherton, and all the way onto West Bay. The rest of the BCC masses had various excuses for not riding, but a few of us got out on rides here an there throughout the day, trying to get in those last few miles for 2019.
