Lots of quandaries over clothing choices this weekend; there were bib shorts, bib shorts with knee warmers, full length bibs, perfettos, base layers with short sleeve jerseys and arm warmers, oh and booties or overshoes…. The hills climbed kept us all on the toasty side though. 7 BCC riders headed out from Bruton on Saturday morning for a fairly standard route to Sherborne via Sigwells. Mr JG and Mr AO were waiting for us at Bean Shot Sherborne, and we were also joined by Mr RA and Mr PH from CCRCC, good company, great chat. Not sure what the rest of the Bean Shot clientele thought of all the lycra, and mud? More hills for the return to Bruton, and the return to normal life.

Sunday - 5 riders gathered on Church Bridge, ready to tackle more hills (3 of the 5 on their second outing for the weekend) and so we headed south, over the climbs around Corton Denham, then up Dancing Hill out of Sherborne, onto Bailey Ridge and up to Lions Gate before hitting the zoomy smooth tarmac of the A352 to Cerne Abbas. Once there we collected Mr SJ and Miss SB from a sneaky coffee stop, and continued chain gang style onto Dorchester. New cafe stop - Finca - proved an excellent choice. Great coffee, and wide range of sweet and savouries, to fuel up for the return. The head wind all the way up the Piddle Valley used up a lot of the calories just consumed, and after Kings Stag the group split, with 4 heading west towards Sherborne, and the remaining 3 making their way back to Bruton. Great Sunday autumnal ride, chapeau to all who rode, and thanks to Sarah and Steve for joining us.
