The Bruton Sportive

The Bruton Sportive

Busy, successful, fun - about sums it up. The Mighty BCC started preparations for this event months ago, but Thursday evening we stepped up a gear, with a planning meeting where else but in the Bruton Castle. Massive thanks to all members who turned out on Friday to help with site set up and route signage. Saturday morning and participants were banging on the gates at 7am, with the Long Route rolling out at 8am, the moderate route at 9am then the short route at 10.30am. We were delighted with the number of children and parents who came to join the fun on the Short and Children’s loops. A total of 103 participants! Brue Valley Rotary and The Hatch Coffee provided sustenance; this along with the beer/cider tent and Peter Tubb and his band gave the field a festival atmosphere. So many club members gave up time to help out with marshalling, registration, and event management - thank you, thank you, thank you. Another big hand for the merry 8 who assembled at 10am on Church Bridge on Sunday morning to “de-sign” the routes that hadn’t already been done by club members on Saturday afternoon.

We’ve had a post event pow wow, reviewing what went well, what didn’t go so well, and reading feedback from participants. We WILL improve our signage for next year, make some route changes, and improve rider briefings, email correspondence, and facilities. We’re also in talks with Digby Etape (Sherborne Cycling Club) about possibly making next year a joint venture.

We hope we’ll see loads of you, and even more of your cycling mates in May 2020 for “The Bruton Sportive - the sequel”
